If you are riding in a group and they are riding at a pace or style that is beyond your capabilities or comfort-level, safely drop-out of the group (let the tail-gunner know that you are not having a problem, but are just dropping back).  Before coming to the Red Rock Ride please read the safety guidelines.

Welcome to the Red Rock Ride!!!

Safety – Safety – Safety

Welcome to the Red Rock Ride!  We hope that you have a great time riding, visiting with old friends, and making new ones.   This is a very informal gathering for members and friends of the GL1800Riders.com forum.  As such there are no official daily rides or events, with the exception of a group event on Saturday night.  We will be using the Holiday Inn Prescott as our headquarters.

We are going to keep the ride schedule very informal and possible routes are included below.   Youmay do these rides or use them as guidelines to develop a ride of your own.  It will be up to you to decide the rides and/or routes you would like to take and the day you would like to ride them.  We will informally form groups each morning leaving from the Holiday Inn , or feel free to form up your own group.  We are recommending that you keep groups to 6 to 10 bikes maximum for safety.  Remember, there are lots of opportunities for other rides and day trips in the area.  Please feel free to explore, as YOU desire.

Riding safely is always of paramount importance, but particularly at the Red Rock Ride.  Group riding can be a challenge, but particularly so in the mountains, canyons, and deserts of Arizona.  Each rider is responsible for understanding their individual riding skills and abilities and is responsible for their participation in rides and other events.  If the group with which you are riding is operating in any manner for which you are uncomfortable, it is YOUR responsibility to either drop out of the group or approach the group leader with your concerns.  You and you alone must be the only authority on whether you feel safe and you should act accordingly.  You and you alone are responsible for your actions and safety – consider the impact of your actions on others. Click here to view some safety information and guidelines for group riding, please review this information for your safety and the safety of others.  (Special thanks to Ann Arbor American H.O.G. for safety information and graphics)

It is recommended that a good quality helmet, eye protection, boots, gloves, and protective clothing be worn at all times, by all riders, and that you have verified that your motorcycle is in a safe operating condition.  If you elect not to wear a helmet or other protective gear you do so at your own risk.

HAVE FUN and RIDE SAFE!

A Couple of Video Clips of the Area

Three 10-minute video clips.   If you are interested in seeing what some of this country looks like from a bike, check out the links below.  Depending upon the speed of your connection (best with a high-speed connection), you may want to let the video download and then replay it all to watch it.

US-191, Arizona, Coronado Trail, Southern Section -- after passing through the copper mining area and as you start climbing into the mountains and then travel into the central portion of the ride:

NOTE:  It will look like I am crossing the center line a lot, but this was primarily due to the camera being in the "wide frame" mode and being mounted on the left engine guard.  I did get a little sloppy a few times.  Keep in mind, we were not riding this road for speed purposes but just at a spirted pace to enjoy the overall experience.
